A toothache can give a very painful experience, however the idea of paying the dentist a visit for a fix scares most people. It is important to note that such pains should not be ignored; toothaches can result from several complications like, exposed tooth root, dental cavity, broken tooth, gum disease, spasm of the muscles used for chewing or jaw point disease.

The extent of the pain varies with the degree of the damage; sometimes the pain can be serene or very severe. Taking of hot or cold drinks and foods can cause further irritations, which contribute greatly to the levels of pains felt, sometimes even weather can also contribute to your agony.

Dental cavities are known to be the most common causes of toothaches. Dental cavities occur when there are holes in the enamel and dentine, which are the outer layers of the tooth. Without proper care of your teeth, the bacteria in your mouth changes sugar into acid that cause cavities. The enamel is the white solid surface that protects the dentine, the soft yellow tissue under the enamel. The acid gradually eats up the enamel, thus exposing the yellow tissue, hence a condition called dental cavity.

Visiting a dentist is highly recommended, however, below are some home remedies that can be used before visiting the dentist.

Instead of drinking hot, cold, or sugary drinks, you can take star fruit two times a day, which help in pain relief.

Chewing ginger or cloves also helps in pain relief. You can also crush cloves together with peanut butter and rub on the aching tooth or rub some clove oil on the tooth for relief. This can be done several times in a day.

Gargling Listerine antiseptic or salt and water solution in your mouth also works as a good home remedy procedure.

Turmeric sticks when burnt produce a powder that can be used for brushing your teeth.

Drops of vanilla extract or Oil of oregano on the aching tooth also help in relieving the pain.

It is always recommended to seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
