Your immune system is your primary defense system against any harmful agents that wish to enter your body and wreak havoc. Given the important function that your immune system plays, it's important to keep it strong and competent 24/7.

Just to give you a brief background, white blood cells (WBC) are the main agents of your immune system. However, other organs are involved in the immune response as well, and this includes your spleen, thymus, and your bone marrow. These are called lymphoid organs simply because they contain a lot of lymphocytes, a type of WBC. Aside from forming a barrier for your body, the immune system eliminates bacteria and other harmful substances before they're able to reproduce.

There are a lot of things you can do for your immune system, and the simplest to do would be to eat healthy. Include greens and fruits in your diet, and go easy on the fats. Exercising and getting enough sleep are also important practices not only to keep your immune system up and running, but to promote overall health as well.

Experimental studies have shown that other substances are capable of promoting immune system health, as well as getting rid of certain diseases. For instance, colloidal silver has been shown to eliminate the HIV virus in experimental animals (AIDS, an autoimmune disorder involving a compromised immune system, is caused by HIV). Scientists from the Brigham Young University also mentioned that colloidal silver is capable of enhancing the immune system by aiding T-cells in fighting off harmful substances.

Scientists in the University of California also showed that stem cell therapy can eliminate HIV. Since stem cells can become any type of cell, they placed a trio of genes into these stem cells, causing them to be resistant to HIV. When tested with mice, the animals were able to maintain a normal immune system despite the presence of the virus.

Although these clinical trials were made on animals, there's still hope that one day soon they may be used for humans as well.
