Psoriasis Cure Now Video Contest Finalists Announced

Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 19, 2007 -- Psoriasis Cure Now has announced finalists in the Psoriasis Cure Now Video Contest. The non-profit group will use the videos to inform Congress and the public about the seriousness of psoriasis and the struggles psoriasis patients face. Videos can be viewed at http://www.psoriasis-cure-now.org/contest/videos.php .

The finalists include a civilian contractor currently working north of Baghdad to bring new electricity to Iraq, an aspiring filmmaker, a grandfather, a chiropractor and a boot camp drill instructor. All of the finalists either suffer from psoriasis or have family and friends with psoriasis, and saw this as an opportunity to increase awareness of this painful condition.

"Psoriasis is the Rodney Dangerfield disease; it gets no respect," says Michael Paranzino, president of Psoriasis Cure Now. "But it's a very serious disease that takes a physical and emotional toll on those afflicted, and their families. We've unleashed the creative spirit of the YouTube nation to help us make this point, and these finalists have done an incredible job producing compelling stories to deliver this message."

Each Finalist wins $250, and the Grand Prize winner will receive $7,500. A comment period on the Psoriasis Cure Now website seeks public comments on which video should win the Grand Prize.

Psoriasis is an incurable, recurring disease of the immune system, causing dry, painful skin lesions that itch, crack and bleed. Psoriasis is a daily impediment that dramatically and negatively impacts the quality of life of as many as 7.5 million Americans. A study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that "Patients with psoriasis reported reduction in physical functioning and mental functioning comparable to that seen in cancer, arthritis, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and depression."

Psoriasis Cure Now is a nonprofit research and education organization dedicated to increasing funding for research, improving the public's understanding of and reducing the stigma associated with psoriasis.

Dead Sea Salt Treatment Introduced for Psoriasis and Eczema Sufferers

(PRWEB) May 21, 2007 -- Skin ailments such as Psoriasis, and Eczema, and are a big concern for many people. In fact over 3% of the world's population suffers from some level of Psoriasis. Severe cases often cause depression or constant states of being uncomfortable. Having healthy and attractive skin is becoming very important as more people are realizing that finding effective skin care products is an important part of staying younger and looking attractive. At the same time those who are suffering from Psoriasis, Eczema or other ailments are discovering that often the only remedies their dermatologists recommend are steroid creams and other treatments which can have some negative side effects on the body.

To help people suffering from these ailments SeaOra Mineral Skin Care, based in Chatsworth, California, has introduced new relief treatments based on Dead Sea Salt. The packages were released on the market on May 14th and are available on Cleopatraschoice.com and SeaOra.com. The company offered a couple of Psoriasis and Eczema products in the past but this is the first time a comprehensive daily regiment treatment has become available for both skin ailments.

So what exactly is The Dead Sea why are skin care products made with the minerals from the sea so effective? The Dead Sea is located in Israel and Jordan and is officially the saltiest body of water in the world. The sea contains over 32% salt content -- compared to only 3% present in regular ocean water. Not only does The Dead Sea have a higher overall concentration of Dead Sea salt, but certain mineral elements such as Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium and Bromine are present in much higher quantities than in regular sea water. These Dead Sea minerals have been proven to be "essential" minerals which are vital to healthy skin function and appearance. Compared to regular sea salt which is composed of mostly sodium, Dead Sea salt has a low level of sodium which is instead replaced by many other minerals, essential to skin health. This is what makes salt from The Dead Sea so effective at relieving skin conditions.

So what's the good news for Psoriasis sufferers? A recent clinical study demonstrates that using Dead Sea cosmetics, salt and mud helps ease Psoriasis symptoms. Fifty Psoriasis patients were gathered for a study in 1989 by Israli Dermatologist Dr. Zvi Even Paz. Dr. Paz studied the effects of using Dead Sea bath salts on these long time Psoriasis patients. Although it was common knowledge at this time that bathing in The Dead Sea would bring about temporary relief from this widespread condition, it was not known whether bathing in Dead Sea bath salts anywhere would produce the same results. For 47 of the 50 Psoriasis patients tested significant relief and skin improvements were achieved. Maximum improvement was found when patients used two pounds per bath, three times a week over a period of six weeks.

Many various skin care and cosmetics products are manufactured today on the shores of The Dead Sea -- all using minerals and healthy ingredients extracted from Dead Sea mud and water. These products range from natural soap to hand cream, to bath salts and more.

SeaOra Dead Sea skin care products have also been found effective at reducing wrinkles and signs of skin aging. According to Israeli chemist Dr. Uzi Reiss, "Our skin cells need Sodium and Potassium for their membrane transport systems. Dead Sea compounds may be the best way of insuring that our skin cells maintain proper moisture and mineral levels. This is the best natural line of defense against the dermal breakdown that causes aging of the skin, fine lines and wrinkles."

For those without a PhD in chemistry, Dead Sea products are simply a natural way to keep the face and skin looking young and smooth. As natural skin care treatments gain more and more popularity among people who don't like to put pharmaceutical chemicals on their skin -- SeaOra Dead Sea skin care is emerging as the leader of natural skin care products.

"You are seeing natural skin care becoming the mainstream popular consumer product -- just like botox and surgical treatments were all the rage of the nineties," says Alex Keyan, the head of product development at SeaOra Mineral Skin Care. "Many people are realizing that there are natural alternatives to achieving the look they want and SeaOra Mineral Skin Care is becoming a large part of that."

Indeed skin products such as bath soaks, facial peels and body lotions have been around for years, but it's that special ingredient of the high concentration of essential Dead Sea minerals that is the reason why skin care enthusiasts are falling in love with Dead Sea cosmetics. Spas and wellness centers are also getting into the trend of mineral skin care -- SeaOra offers them a variety of wholesale spa products and beauty products and lists spas and stores that carry the SeaOra brand on their website.
