Diabetic Diet: Ways To Lower Your Blood Sugar Level

Lowering the blood sugar through diet is one of the most critical parts of living with diabetes. High levels of blood sugar can lead to serious damage to the kidneys, eyes, nerves, and heart. Finding a way to lowering and regulate blood sugar is critical to ensuring the body stays in reasonable health. A healthier diabetic diet can help those who are already suffering from diabetes, as well preventing diabetes in people at high risk.

There are a few easy changes to an individual’s diet that can help in the regulation of blood sugar levels.

The simplest way to maintain normal blood sugar is to monitor your diet. A person with diabetes should try to incorporate foods into their diets that break down slower in the body such as low-glycolic foods. These foods include oatmeal, peanuts, peas, zucchini, fruits, barley, and granola. Adding these foods into your diet can be a significant step in controlling your blood sugar, and eliminate the risk of circulation problems and other health issues.

Drinking decaffeinated coffee will help reduce the rate the intestines process sugar. This is not the case with caffeine it must be decaffeinated. Drinking a cup of decaffeinated coffee with your morning donut or cinnamon roll will slow the speed in which your blood sugar rises.

Onion and garlic have also been shown to keep blood sugar levels down, due to their chemical makeup which helps the pancreas in the production of insulin needed to deal with high-sugar levels.

Lowering stress levels and relaxing will also assist in maintaining normal blood sugar levels. When a person becomes extremely stressed, the body releases a chemical that causing the blood sugar levels to rise extremely fast. Enjoy some quality time for yourself and relax, this can help avoid high blood sugar levels.

Exercise is also an essential part of regulating blood sugar levels. Many experts believe that if a person exercises every morning before breakfast, this can lower glucose levels without the help of medication.

There are some foods a diabetic should avoid. Foods high in carbohydrates like pasta and potatoes should be eaten in moderation. The body turns excess carbohydrates to sugar, resulting in higher blood sugar levels. Chicken, seafood, turkey, green vegetables, and salad are a healthy choice and are high in vitamins and low in carbohydrates.
