Exercise-Based Scoliosis Therapy May Eliminate Need for Scoliosis Surgery

Promising new research from the Natural Wellness & Pain Relief Centers on the ARC3D Scoliosis Therapy shows that correction of scoliosis can be achieved without the need for scoliosis bracing or surgery, thereby avoiding the potential side effects of these traditional scoliosis treatments.

Grand Blanc, MI (PRWEB) November 14, 2011

New research by out this month by the Natural Wellness & Pain Relief Centers shows promising results for the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis. ARC3D Therapy, an exercise-based scoliosis treatment is the first non-surgical, non-bracing scoliosis treatment to demonstrate multiple sustained corrective benefits once treatment is completed.

In the study, patients were treated using ARC3D Scoliosis Therapy. When the follow up was conducted two years after the initial treatment, patients demonstrated sustained improvements in breathing, pain levels, and the degree of spinal curvature on x-ray.

“We are excited to be the first clinics in Michigan to offer this new treatment to scoliosis patients,” said Megan Strauchman, D.O., the Medical Director for the Natural Wellness & Pain Relief Centers. "Patients now have a viable option for treatment other than bracing and surgery, which have considerable side effects."

According to the National Scoliosis Foundation, Scoliosis typically affects about 2-3% of the population annually or roughly 6 million people in the United States alone. Early detection and treatment in genetically high risk patients may decrease the need for scoliosis surgery later on. Although some cases of scoliosis may resolve on their own without the need for treatment, genetic testing can now be done to predict the risk of progression for patients with mild scoliosis.

Additionally, new research from the European Spine Journal suggests that scoliosis may often develop around menopause, as women begin losing bone density. Dr. Megan Strauchman suggests that women who are already developing degenerative scoliosis will likely want a combined treatment approach, one that includes bio-identical hormone replacement and a conservative exercise-based scoliosis therapy like ARC3D to help reverse the scoliosis.
