New non surgical Treatment for Scoliosis

Los Angeles, Feb 3, 2009 -- Marking a major development in non-surgical care of Scoliosis, Orthopedic Surgeon Christine Collaird, M.D., has created a revolutionary bracing system that reduces Scoliosis while improving muscle function without the use of a hard brace. It's called "Spinecor." Dr. Collaird and her team of physicians are now convinced the success of the program is due to changes in postural control from the brain.

Through a collaborative effort, ScoliosisSpecialists.com and SpineCor(TM) are responsible for amazing advancements in spinal and neurological rehabilitation. Today's sophisticated medical equipment allows for monitoring of how the brain controls posture. An imbalance in specific parts of the brain including the vestibular cortex and the brainstem has been reported in scoliosis for nearly 25 years, although non-surgical techniques like spine bracing have changed very slowly, until now.

The Spinecor(TM) brace is fitted and worn home the same day. Adults can be fitted in any state such as New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles and more as an ongoing clinical study to determine the long-term efficacy of Spinecor(TM) and Vestibular rehabilitation in the adult population. Fitted elastic bands replace the hard shell brace used for so many years. The sequence, direction and tension in each band are carefully selected to allow the use of natural muscle activity to reduce the scoliotic deformity immediately. Unlike a supportive device which may de-weight the spine and reduce the contribution from surrounding muscle tissue, Spinecor(TM) uses movement and increased muscle activity to change the spine. This is why this new technique is thought to have changed non-surgical outcomes forever.

Scoliosis Specialists has pioneered the treatment of adults using vestibular rehabilitation and postural reeducation using Spinecor(TM). "Many Adults with Scoliosis have chronic back pain are suffering too much for too long and need more advanced treatment, Spinecor(TM) and Scoliosis Specialists promise to offer great improvements in those options," says Dr. Ron Marinaro of ScoliosisSpecialists.com .

Research from The Orthopedic Clinic of North America reveals these alarming statistics for many traditional back surgeries in the United States: 25,000-50,000 failed back surgery syndrome cases are reported each year; overall failure rate 30 percent (fusion), 37.3 (non-fusion), re-operation rate 6.9 percent overall at two-year follow-up; 11.9 percent (fusion), 10.2 percent (non-fusion) at four-year follow-up; re-hospitalization 22.4 percent (fusion), 18.3 percent (non-fusion).
